Cyprus Visa Requirements

Individuals who are required to obtain an entry visa when visiting Cyprus will need to take note of the current visa-system in Cyprus. Cypriot law differentiates between 5 types of visas, depending on the type of visit which is made in the State:

  • Short-stay visas
  • Long-stay visas
  • Airport transport visas
  • Transit visas
  • Group/collective visas

Short-stay visas apply to individuals who are travelling to Cyprus for reasons other than immigration. The visit must not exceed three months within half of a year from the date of the first visit. This will provide individuals with the right of continuous visit or several visits to Cyprus.

Long-stay visas are specifically applicable to persons who intend on staying in Cyprus for more than 3 months. The type of long-stay visa applicable depends on the reasons for which the individual is staying within Cyprus for that period of time, which must fall under one of the three following categories:

  • Cyprus residence visa
  • Cyprus work permit
  • Cyprus student visa

Airport transfer visas allow individuals to pass through the international transit area of Cypriot airports, without needing to enter the national territory of Cyprus. Therefore, in the case of a stop-over or a transfer between two stages of an international flight, individuals would need to acquire this type of visa.

A transit visa, on the other hand, is used by individuals who wish to travel from one country to another, passing through the territory of Cyprus. Under this visa, the duration of each transit should not exceed 5 days, it will hence be issued once the traveller is guaranteed entry into the destination country and it is confirmed that the route will require transit through Cyprus.

Group/Collective visas allow a group of travellers to be affixed a group passport. The decision to travel must be made prior to the issuance of the visa. The persons forming part of this group are expected to stay there and leave the State as a group. They may vary from 5 to 50 people, where the person in charge must possess an individual passport, and if necessary, an individual visa.

The aforementioned visa applications must be submitted in person to the Consulate, any diplomatic missions of Cyprus, or British High Commissions and Embassies within specific countries.
